Laura Beard is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of North Texas. Her primary medium is painting. Beard is a nonobjective painter. Here conceptual paintings have addressed religion, geology, aerodynamics, quantum physics and acoustic shadow. Painting aspects of our world that are intangible inspires her. Her work influenced by her environment and on her travel experiences. She does work from observation to keep the work fresh in terms of mark making, composition and palette.
Her most recent solo show “Acoustic Shadow” was with the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, MO April-June 2018. She had a residency and a solo show at Sternstudios, Vienna, Austria 2017. She had a solo show “Ravenna Suite” with the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, MO in 2014/15. She had a solo show at Edition PS 1, in Vienna, Austria 2014. She has had solo shows at Perimeter Gallery in Chicago, Space B in New York, Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art in Kansas City, the Phil Slein Gallery in St. Louis, MO and the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, MO. She has done residencies in Antigua, Guatemala; Vienna, Austria at Sternstudios and Edition PS 1; Ravenna, Italy and the Vermont Studio Artist Colony. The Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis and Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art in Kansas City represent her work.
Beard was born in 1962. She has an MFA in Painting from the University of Washington, WA and a BFA in painting and printmaking from Colorado State University. Beard currently lives and works in Denton TX. She has a house in Denton TX that is a live/work space, which she shares with her partner Ryan Fuentez and their German Shepherd Odin andMaine Coon Cat Vito.
